Dear parents,
We understand that being locked up within the 4 walls of your house 24/7 with your children can sometimes get on your nerve. Even though we try our utmost best to be the most loving mother we could ever want, it’s undeniable to say that reality can be challenging and may even bring the monster out of you.
Well, we certainly don’t want that, do we?
You know, we can’t blame them. Toddlers are in the age of learning, just newbies in this life, getting exposed to new things day by day. And we as Moms need to nourish our kids with good things so that they will grow up to be the best munchkin in this world!
Since all the childcare centers are closed because of the coronavirus, we have listed 3 of the most common things kids do during RMO that may step on your toes. (and we have the solutions!)
1. They always want to play!
When toddlers are at their age, the most important word in their dictionary is “play”. From the moment they wake up till they go slumber, toddlers will go berserk on all the toys they see and will some seek your attention when they feel bored. Unfortunately, this may happen during inconvenient times like during your WFH hours or in the kitchen.
One way to make things less frustrating is to let them play with the correct stuff. Parents don’t need expensive toys and strict schedules to replicate an early learning program. You can encourage them to learn through play. Whether Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels, imaginary games, or dress ups, instill easy learning materials in between. They will be more likely to catch new knowledge better when they are in a fun environment.
2. Gosh, they ask too many questions!
They say curiosity kills the cat, but I say curiosity grooms the cat. It is unavoidable for toddlers to ask so many questions, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic. And most of the time, we limit our answers just so that they can understand.
Kids aren’t getting information that is developmentally inappropriate for them. So, that will only listen to what they find fun or interesting. Only by giving them the type and amount of information that they can process at their age should be the way to go. Just be patient and use visual cues to make them understand better.
Even though it is tough handling toddlers all day long, it is also important to remember that stay quarantined is the best way to fight off the Corona Virus. While there has no cure for the disease, it is as important to keep your family healthy.
3. They don’t understand that 24 hours is not enough for us!
The best way to solve this is to divide your time into solid blocks. This could help you keep on track and set your priorities right. Nothing is worse than having your hands playing with your children but your head on your work. With proper time blocking, you will be amazed at how efficient your time is well spent.
Another great tip to make children understand time better is to set a timer. Yes, literally a timer. Let’s say your 3-5 PM should be your working time block, show the timer to your kids, and explain to them that Mommy needs to work until the clock rings. This will make them more conscious of the time and understand that Mommy will play with them when the alarm rings.
